THE BC Liberals said on Wednesday that the City of Vancouver’s plan to spend $30 million on proper supports for the homeless is a damning indictment of the BC NDP’s failures.
“John Horgan’s pattern of saying one thing and doing another is going to prove costly to taxpayers as Vancouver looks to step in and do what the NDP won’t do — provide proper supports to those in need,” said BC Liberal candidate George Affleck. “Horgan’s failure hurts those most in need and is having a devastating impact on neighbourhoods across the province. The NDP has failed on public safety, and the problem is getting worse.”
Affleck was responding to the City of Vancouver’s proposal to spend tens of millions of dollars to — according to Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart — ensure “wraparound services in place to stabilize their lives.”
The BC Liberals said that their party leader Andrew Wilkinson and they have been calling on BC NDP Leader John Horgan and the NDP to stop warehousing homeless people without the proper supports — as they have done in communities across the province.
“The NDP’s attitude has been to hide the problem away and it hasn’t worked, it’s created more problems,” said Affleck. “Those in need deserve proper supports, and neighbourhoods have a right to feel safe. If the NDP were doing the job properly, listening to communities, the city wouldn’t have to drop $30 million to fix the problem.”
