BC Liberals push government to keep promises made to farmers following 2021 Abbotsford floods

ABBOTSFORD South MLA Bruce Banman says the NDP government needs to ensure that hardworking Abbotsford farmers who help keep British Columbians fed are given the support they were promised after last year’s devastating floods.

Speaking in the Legislature on Wednesday, Banman highlighted how despite the life-disrupting damage and costs of the storms, farmers got to work, rebuilt, repaired, and restarted at a high personal price to help keep B.C. fed.

On what is the most productive agricultural land in Canada on a per-hectare basis, Abbotsford farmers are hard at work producing some of the most diverse crop yields in this country. They are counting on the NDP government to ensure that last year’s destructive events don’t repeat themselves and that such consequences are prevented.

Banman said farmers are worried that the promised help by the government won’t come in time to avoid the type of disaster we saw last year. The government needs to do more to protect B.C. farmers.
