BC NDP secures mandate to keep making progress for working families: BCFED

THE BC Federation of Labour (BCFED) said on Monday that with the re-election of David Eby and the BCNDP, BC’s labour movement is looking forward to building on their momentum to make big improvements in the lives of working people over the next four years.

“British Columbia voters have given David Eby and the BC NDP a renewed mandate for solid, progressive change,” said BCFED President Sussanne Skidmore.

“His campaign set out a clear plan to invest in the services we count on, bring costs down and make life for working people better — at home, in the workplace and in our communities.”

“We’re looking forward to continuing to work with David Eby and the NDP caucus on the issues that matter to workers,” said Secretary-Treasurer Hermender Singh Kailley.

“There are some terrific new MLAs joining the caucus. We’re sorry some strong advocates for working people won’t be coming back, and we’re grateful for the work they’ve done for British Columbians.

“The closeness of the results tells us just how urgent it is for government to act on the challenges working families are facing.”

Kailley said the BCFED will work with the government to take immediate action on a wide range of issues, including jobs, workplace safety and labour relations as well as areas such as transit, health care and housing.

“Congratulations to David Eby and the BC NDP. And a huge thanks to all the volunteers from unions across the province who came out to volunteer on local campaigns — knocking on doors, making calls and putting up signs,” Skidmore said.

“It’s working people who power our movement, and with the race this close, it’s working people who made the difference.”
