BC Taxi Association Likes Proposed New Changes

BC Taxi Association have said they like on-coming changes to the industry that will be going before city council. Council will be considering bylaw amendments that will increase by 23% the number of taxi licenses. Also drivers may need a criminal record check. Taxi Association President Mohan Kang says the city needs more taxis, especially during peak periods on weekend evenings.

Mohan Kang says It’s been happening for a long time. The main thing is also the Vancouver city has become the hub-town for entertainment. Most of the guys, especially young people from the suburban places, they go to Vancouver because they feel there is action there. At the end of the day or end of the night, they want to go back home, they are not getting the taxi service.

Kang says it is also good news for cruise ship arrival days and massive special events downtown.
