ON November 1, Matsqui Centennial Auditorium was filled with 280 community members for the screening of “Because We Are Girls.”

Directed by filmmaker Baljit Sangra, the film followed the story of the three Pooni sisters who are survivors of sexual abuse by a close relative. Organized by the Community Awareness Team, the goal of the event was to bring awareness and promote dialogue around the subject of sexual abuse. The evening ended with many tears and heavy hearts as the Pooni sisters were also in attendance.

The response to the event was amazing and the Community Awareness Team is looking forward to bring more events like these to Abbotsford.
