Body discovered inside Surrey house after fire

SHORTLY after 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, Surrey Police Service officers were called by Surrey Fire Service after firefighters located a deceased man inside a structure fire at an abandoned house in the 9800-block of 138 Street.

Surrey Fire Service firefighters located the deceased adult man inside the residence while they controlled the active structure fire. Frontline SPS officers attended and have held the scene, while also canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses and surveillance video.

Police said at this early stage of the investigation, it is unknown how the man died, and his death is being treated as suspicious until deemed otherwise. Surrey Police Service Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) detectives have been called in to lead the investigation in collaboration with Surrey Fire Service.
