THE City of Delta will kick off the summer season in dazzling fashion with Delta’s first-ever Street Mural Painting Party at the Bridge Street Pop-Up Park.
On June 22, residents from across Delta are encouraged to join their neighbours in painting a professionally designed, large-scale mural at the Bridge Street Pop-up Park in Ladner Village. Friends and family are invited to register in advance for this free event. Grab a paintbrush and participate in this unique community art project that will remain installed on site until September 5.
“June gives us so many reasons to get outdoors and celebrate in our community, and the Bridge Street Mural Painting Party welcomes everyone to get involved, show off their creativity, and make a mark on their City,” said Delta Mayor George V. Harvie on Tuesday. “I can’t think of a better way to kick off the season than through socializing at a pop-up park and contributing to making Delta a vibrant, summer hot spot.”
Mural artist Amy Walker, from MakeMobile, will start the street mural on Thursday, June 19, prior to the public event, by painting the larger design and a canvas of blank, stenciled fish shapes. On June 22, the Painting Party begins at 10 a.m. with locals grabbing a paintbrush, tapping into their creativity, and bringing the mural to life with colour. The event will conclude at 4 p.m. with the mural artist unveiling the complete collaborative work. Participants are encouraged to pre-register for a timeslot to avoid the lines. Some timeslots will be available to reserve on-site, day-of.
Once completed, the mural will be a backdrop for the Bridge Street Pop-Up Park for the summer, providing a fitting tribute to the sense of community that the parks inspire. The Pop-Up Park will feature the opportunity to challenge each other to any of the available patio games or get cozy in one of the available Adirondack chairs. The Pop-Up Parks will be available to the public from dawn until 10 p.m. throughout the summer.
