THERE will be the largest contingent ever of South Asians in the House of Commons in the new Parliament. They or their families come from different parts of the world and diverse faiths; however, most of them are of Punjabi origin, mainly Sikhs.
Sixteen of the new MPs are from Ontario, seven from British Columbia, six from Alberta and two from Quebec.
The 31 MPs constitute almost 10 per cent of the House of Commons that has a membership of 343.
