Trump congratulates Carney; leaders to meet in person

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday congratulated Prime Minister Mark Carney on his recent election.

The leaders agreed on the importance of Canada and the United States working together – as independent, sovereign nations – for their mutual betterment. To that end, the leaders agreed to meet in person in the near future, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

MEANWHILE, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Carney. In a post on X, he said: “Congratulations [Mark Carney] on your election as the Prime Minister of Canada and to the Liberal Party on their victory.”

He added: “India and Canada are bound by shared democratic values, a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, and vibrant people-to-people ties. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our partnership and unlock greater opportunities for our people.”
