BURNABY RCMP’s Community Response Team (CRT) received information about an individual that was allegedly selling stolen clothing through an online marketplace.
On November 19, Burnaby RCMP’s CRT and Bike Section executed a search warrant at a Vancouver residence, resulting in the seizure of approximately $40,000 worth of stolen property and over $2,000 in cash.
The merchandise seized has been linked to businesses in at least four cities in the Lower Mainland, including Burnaby, Vancouver, Coquitlam, and West Vancouver.
“We have excellent partners such as loss prevention officers and security agencies at various businesses that assist in the day-to-day suppression of retail theft, which negatively impacts everyone in the community,” said Sgt. Neil Jones with Burnaby RCMP’s Community Programs. “Specific intelligence gathered by one of these partners was essential in getting us to this point and will assist us as we move this investigation forward.”
Police seized more than 230 high-end items, including:
- 106 pairs of pants
- 48 shirts and sweaters
- 15 jackets and hoodies
- 14 pairs of shoes
- 5 purses
- 9 watches
Along with the stolen merchandise, over $1,500 in Canadian cash and $500 in US cash was seized as a result of the investigation.
“This is another example of how the Community Response Team works in collaboration with the community to keep it safe.” Jones said.
A 41-year-old Vancouver man now faces multiple potential charges. The investigation is ongoing.
