Burnaby RCMP seize loaded handgun after report of suspicious woman

A public report of a suspicious person in a Burnaby neighbourhood led to firearms charges against a 26-year-old woman.

On the afternoon of March 20, a member of Burnaby RCMP’s Community Response Team (CRT) was doing proactive patrols near Royal Oak Avenue and Rumble Street when he was approached by a member of the public who reported a suspicious person allegedly peering into a nearby home.

Officers investigated and located a woman matching the description provided by the witness near the back of a home. Personal belongings and a backpack were found nearby.

Police found a loaded handgun inside the bag and arrested the woman.

On June 12, the BC Prosecution Service approved the following charges against 26-year-old Raven Lee Graham:

  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • Possession of firearm contrary to order

“We’re thankful for the quick-thinking witness who saw something suspicious and didn’t ignore it,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP. “If your gut says something is up, listen to it. We encourage the public to report suspicious activity to police.”
