AN Eye Camp and Health Fair organized by the Canadian Eyesight Global (CEG) at the Singh Sabha Gurudwara in Surrey on Sunday, June 11 was a resounding success.

The camp was held in honour of the late Anup Singh Jubbal, who was the founder and CEO of the CEG. He passed away in August 2021.

The last eye camp was held in March 2020 at the same location just before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The eye camp was organized by Dr. Parmjit Sohal, a local family physician with the support of the Canadian Eyesight Global board members Tanveer Sohal, Neena Sohal, Amarjit Sidhu, Jaspreet (Vicky) Thind, and Co-President Saroop Jubbal.

The eye camps supported by several doctors and a dedicated team of volunteers, including Gurmail Singh Dhaliwal. Ophthalmologist Dr. David Neima and his team of Dr. Warren Whitford, and Dr. Alicia Ramirez provided support for the eye camps. The other eye doctors who helped included Dr. Shobha Daniel, Dr. Eno Chude, Dr. Bikramjit Hanspal, and Dr. Bhavdip Gill.

Ashish Patel (pharmacist and diabetes educator) and Jagdeep Pandher assisted with blood glucose and blood pressure screenings.

CEG had an overwhelming response from the community, and it was a remarkably busy and successful day. The camp was initially planned to run until 4 p.m. but because of the heavy public demand, it remained open until 6 p.m. About 125 people were screened for eye care, diabetes, and hypertension.

The Rotary Club of Surrey supported the Eye Camp and Health Fair. CEG thanked Rotarians Lal Baniya (President), John Edwards, Dave Hayer, Garry Sass and Sohaljeet Singh for attending the event.

CEG thanked all the volunteers who supported the event, including Asharjit Minhas, Princejeet Kaur, Rachal Kaushal, Sarbeshwar Jaggi, Shreya Singla, Mitraz Singh, Kapoor Singh Var, Harprabhjit Hanspal and several others.

CEG also thanked several local politicians who attended and supported this event, including Education Minister Rachna Singh, Forests Minister Bruce Ralston, MLA Jinny Sims, and Surrey Councillors Linda Annis and Mike Bose.

CEG also thanked all the committee members of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara for their generous support of the Eye Camp and Health Fair.
