Cartons of contraband tobacco and cash seized at traffic stop in Langley

LANGLEY RCMP’s Special Response Team seized significant amounts of currency and contraband tobacco after conducting a traffic stop.

On June 25 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Special Response Team located a suspicious vehicle in the 5400-block of 204 Street. Within a short period of time the vehicle took off from the area.

Officers observed a traffic infraction under the Motor Vehicle Act and a traffic stop was conducted which led to the discovery of $19,692, 12 cartons of unstamped cigarettes and small amounts of illicit drugs. The driver was arrested for trafficking-related offences and released pending further investigation.

“Contraband tobacco poses a dual threat to public health and government revenue. The driver may also face several charges under the Excise Act along with trafficking charges under the Criminal Code,” said Langley RCMP Community and Admin Services Officer, A/Inspector Bal Sidhu.

Residents are reminded to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 to report any suspicion of illegal activities.
