Chanchal Badwalin, 49, charged in Surrey shooting investigation

CRIMINAL Code charges have been approved following a Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into a shooting that took place in the Newton area of Surrey.

On January 1 at approximately 11:45 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired inside a home in the area of 140B Street and 59 Avenue. SPS members located an injured male who was transported to hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. That individual was reported to be in stable condition. A second male at scene was arrested.

SPS’s Serious Crime Unit (SCU) assumed conduct of the investigation and on January 28, charges were approved by the BC Prosecution Service.

Chanchal Badwal, 49, has been charged with:

  • One count of attempted murder
  • One count of discharge a firearm with intent to endanger life
  • One count of possess a loaded prohibited firearm
  • One count assault causing bodily harm
  • One count of discharge a prohibited firearm
  • One count of breach of release order

He is in custody pending his next appearance in court on February 6.
