Charges approved in Surrey shooting investigation

ON March 24 at 10:56 p.m., Surrey Police Service (SPS) received a report of a motor vehicle collision with injuries in the 10300-block of University Drive. Further investigation revealed that the victim was driving northbound on University Avenue when they were allegedly struck by a bullet. BCEHS attended and transported the victim to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

SPS Major Crime Section assumed conduct of the investigation. A suspect was subsequently identified and arrested.

On April 1, BC Prosecution Service approved charges against one male.

A 42-year-old male is charged with the following offences:

  • One count of reckless discharge of a firearm
  • One count of assault
  • One count of using an imitation firearm
  • One count of carrying a concealed weapon
  • One count of fail to comply with release order

He remains in custody pending his next appearance in court on April 17.
