AT approximately 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Abbotsford Police patrol officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the parking lot of a Townhouse Complex in the 32000-block of Simon Avenue.

Despite the immediate efforts of witnesses and first responders, the pedestrian — a child — succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The investigation is in its early stages and is being supported by members of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the Abbotsford Police Victim Services Unit.

The entrance to the Townhouse Complex remains closed to vehicle traffic while officers continue to gather evidence. The Abbotsford Police Department said it extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the child involved in this tragic incident.
