Coquitlam RCMP resolve school threat

COQUITLAM RCMP frontline officers responded to a third-party threat report at Centennial Secondary located at 570 Poirier Street in Coquitlam shortly before 11:30 a.m. As a precaution, the school and the nearby Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex located at 633 Poirier Street were placed in under a hold and secure order.

As police investigated the threat, there was a significant police presence surrounding the school campus.

Police have identified and located a youth from another jurisdiction, who is believed to be the source of the threat. Police will be investigating further.

There is no continued threat to the public or the school.

The school lifted their hold and secure with classes resuming as normal.

“We take any threat to a school very seriously and will act accordingly. Out of an abundance of caution, the school and the nearby recreation centre were placed under a hold and secure order. This was to ensure the safety of the public as police continued the investigation,” said Media Relations Officer, Cpl. Alexa Hodgins.

“Coquitlam RCMP would like to thank the Coquitlam School District for their assistance in this matter and the public for their patience and understanding.”
