Coquitlam RCMP seek witnesses, video in attempted child-luring investigation

COQUITLAM RCMP on Wednesday appealed to the public for additional witnesses and video in identifying the suspects who attempted to lure a child into their vehicle as the child walked home from school.

On Tuesday, May 9 at 3:21 p.m., Coquitlam frontline officers responded to a report of an attempted child luring in the area of Robson Drive and Purcell Drive in Coquitlam. While a 10-year-old girl was walking home from Panorama Heights Elementary school located at 1455 Johnson Street in Coquitlam, they were approached by two unknown adult females in a vehicle. The suspects asked the girl to get into the vehicle for “treats”.

The girl ran away to a nearby Coquitlam City bylaw officer for assistance. The suspect vehicle fled the scene.

“We applaud this girl who immediately found a trusted adult for assistance and contacted police”, said Cpl. Alexa Hodgins. “We would like to thank the Coquitlam City bylaw officer for providing quick assistance and safety during this concerning incident.”

The suspect females can be described as middle-aged with one of them having ginger-coloured hair.
