Cyclist injured in serious collision in Vancouver

VANCOUVER Police are investigating a serious collision that sent a cyclist to hospital on Tuesday, and are asking anyone with information to call police.

The 36-year-old was riding her bike north on Maple Street at West 4th Avenue on March 18 just before 9:30 a.m., when she was struck by the driver of a Toyota Venza in the intersection. The cyclist was taken to hospital where she remains, with life-threatening injuries.

“The cyclist’s leg was trapped under the car, and required Vancouver Fire Rescue Services to use the jaws of life to rescue her,” said Constable Tania Visintin on Wednesday.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone with dash-cam footage, is asked to call VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.
