VANCOUVER Police are investigating after a dead newborn baby was found in a portable public restroom on Wednesday evening.
“This is a, without a doubt, an extremely tragic incident,” said Constable Tania Visintin. “We need to speak with any witnesses and the mother of this baby as we are deeply concerned for her mental and physical well-being. It has been a tough evening for the community and the [police] department.”
Just before 6 p.m., police were called to the area of Main and Hastings streets for reports of a newborn baby inside a portable restroom. It was obvious to responding officers that the baby was dead.
Police are urging anyone with information to call the Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
