Lisa Batstone charged with second-degree murder in death of her eight-year-old child

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which worked throughout Wednesday evening processing the scene where a dead child was located in the trunk of a vehicle in the 13900 block of 35A Avenue in Surrey, announced Thursday that the mother of the kid, Lisa Batstone, 41, has been charged with second-degree murder.

At about 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance in that area. Police found a body in the trunk of a car stuck in a ditch.

IHIT Staff-Sgt. Jennifer Pound told the media that police believe the child was dead before being transported to the area.

IHIT said that they have decided to release the name of the victim in this case to further the investigation. She has been identified as eight-year-old Teagan Batstone.

The accused does not have any other children.

The cause of death has not been confirmed and an autopsy is scheduled for today (Thursday).
