Deadly shooting in Surrey, IHIT called in



SURREY RCMP has confirmed The VOICE’s report that a deadly shooting had occurred on Friday evening.

(On Saturday, IHIT said the victim was Bikramjit Singh Khakh, 30, of Surrey.) 

Around 10:10 p.m. the RCMP finally announced that at about 7:15 p.m. they were called to the 13900-block of 58A Avenue after a report of a shooting was received. Police found an adult victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite all attempts to revive the individual, the victim succumbed to his injuries

Shortly after the shooting was reported, Surrey RCMP was also alerted to a vehicle on fire in the area of King George Boulevard and Colebrook Road. It is not yet known if these occurrences are linked.

The area surrounding the scenes of both of these incidents will be cordoned off for a significant amount of time.  The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP Major Crime Section.

Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase, no further information will be provided at this time.

THE VOICE has received reports of a deadly shooting around 138th Street and 58th Avenue. Surrey RCMP would not comment on it and we have asked them to get us the watch commander’s comments.

Information so far is that a South Asian longshoreman is the victim. The VOICE has been told the name of the victim but we are not publishing it for now. He is said to be about 28 years old.

Surrey RCMP told The VOICE at 9:50 p.m. to call the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), thus confirming that a deadly shooting had occurred.
