Death of man found dead in Surrey house fire not suspicious

SURREY Police Service said on Monday that following a thorough investigation, it has been concluded that the death of a man found deceased after a fire in an abandoned house in early January is not suspicious.

Over the last two months, Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers and its Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) conducted extensive investigation into the structure fire in the 9800-block of 138 Street and the location of a deceased individual inside.

In addition, the work of Surrey Fire Service, RCMP Arson investigators and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) was integral in support of this investigation.

The culmination of all these efforts was the determination that the tragic death of this man did not involve foul play, police said. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was initially deployed, however, SPS resumed conduct of the investigation, and the police investigation is now concluded.

Surrey Police Service extended condolences to the friends and family of the deceased man.
