DEEPAK Obhrai, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and for International Human Rights, has been named by Embassy Magazine, Canada’s foreign policy newspaper, in its annual Savvy Diplomat Survey, as the third hardest working Parliamentarian on foreign policy and the third most well-connected Parliamentarian to the diplomatic scene.
Obhrai, MP for Calgary East (Alberta), was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997 and re-elected in 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2011. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in February 2006 and continues to serve in this role.
In addition, he has also served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Cooperation.
