ON Friday, November 29 at 9:39 a.m., the Delta Police Department (DPD) responded to a report of a car having been driven intentionally into the foreshore of the Fraser River in the 8200-block of River Road. “The vehicle was off-road and stuck in the foreshore of the river and not in the water,” police said.

Prior to police arrival, Delta Fire Department firefighters and good Samaritans came to the aid of the female driver and two young children.  The children were transported to hospital for observation, with no apparent injuries noted.  The driver, who was also transported to hospital, is receiving medical care.  The DPD is investigating this incident as a criminal matter.

River Road has remained closed while collision analysts map and document the scene.

The area was busy with commuters at the time of the incident.  Investigators are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with an investigator, to contact the Delta Police at (604) 946-4411.  If you have CCTV, dash camera video, Tesla video or similar footage, you are requested to contact officers as well.  Quote file number 2024-22512 when calling.

“We thank the public and the Delta Firefighters for their actions at the onset of this incident,” police said.
