A Vancouver Police investigation has led to charges after a man was stabbed multiple times outside the Carnegie Centre last week.
VPD investigators believe the stabbing occurred last week on Friday afternoon, near Main and Hastings streets, after a confrontation between two men outside the community centre. Although the incident was not immediately reported to police, officers began investigating after the victim showed up at hospital with several serious stab wounds.
“Officers who work in the Downtown Eastside immediately launched an investigation and were quickly able to identify a suspect, who was arrested near Main and Hastings later that day,” said Sgt. Steve Addison on Monday. “The victim is now recovering from his injuries.”
Alexander Alvarez, 50, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
