Fatal single vehicle collision in Burnaby

BURNABY RCMP are seeking dash cam footage and additional witnesses as part of their investigation into a fatal single vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Canada Way and Kensington Avenue.

On Wednesday, July 19, just before 5 p.m., Burnaby RCMP received a report that a blue Kia Soul had driven through the intersection and into a retaining wall. Despite medial intervention by first responders on scene, the lone occupant, an adult woman, died. There were no other injuries as a result of the crash.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the driver during this difficult time,” said Cpl. Laura Hirst. “The cause of the crash is under investigation, but there are early indications the driver may have suffered a sudden medical incident prior to the crash. It is still important that we hear from those who may have seen the vehicle prior to the crash or witnessed the collision.”

Anyone who has dash cam video or who may have witnessed the crash or seen the vehicle in the area before the collision between approximately 5 p.m and 5:10 p.m are urged to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 23-24858.
