George Mackie Library Evening Book Club honours Black History Month in February

Do you like to read and discuss books? The George Mackie Library Evening Book welcomes new members! The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month, from 7 pm to 7:45 pm. Some of the titles they read in 2023 were Anxious People, The Vanishing Half, and 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act. In honour of Black History Month in February, the Evening Book Club decided to select and read a book written by a Black author. The title, Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisa Coates (part of FVRL’s circulating collection), was suggested. However, members weren’t limited to this title and could choose from a myriad of books, from authors Chinua Achebe to Colson Whitehead. If you’d like to recognize Black History Month too, check out some FVRL staff-curated lists on Black Voices at www.fvrl.ca by selecting List from the dropdown list, typing Black Voices, and clicking the search button.
