Fishermen Helping Kids with Cancer will hold its 14th annual herring sale on Saturday, January 11, in Steveston and Victoria.
The herring sale has become quite a tradition in Steveston. FHKWC expects to sell about 6,000 bags of herring to some 3,000 happy customers.
Customers get 20 pounds of fresh herring for $20. They leave knowing that 100% of the money goes to support kids being treated for cancer at BC Children’s Hospital. The BC commercial fishing industry covers all costs of the event, so every penny goes to help some mighty kids in the fight of their life.
Since 2011, the BC fishing industry has raised more than $1 million for kids being treated for cancer at BC Children’s Hospital. Thanks to herring and thousands of customers, there is an iPad and video game system for every room on the oncology ward at BC Children’s plus a big game library, music systems, snacks, toys, books, musical instruments, laptops, special food and gifts at Christmas and a multitude of items to improve the quality of life for kids with cancer.

The fishery was successful Wednesday night, and the herring are being unloaded Thursday morning at the Steveston Seafood Auction. The auction will also be unloading herring on Friday starting at 8 a.m.
