Horgan remains in hiding as Wet’suwet’en conflict continues: BC Liberals

BC Liberal Opposition Leader Andrew Wilkinson on Tuesday demanded that Premier John Horgan show leadership and end the standoff with the Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs who now say they will only talk to the provincial or federal government.

Wilkinson said: “It’s time for John Horgan to do his job and get this fixed. It’s the least he can do after mocking LNG development for so many years. His silence on this issue speaks volumes to the communities along this pipeline who no longer have certainty that the NDP will follow the law of Canada. This is a crucially important project and the constant delays and threats are hurting local communities as well as the rest of our province.

“Under the NDP, British Columbia is now being seen as a place where the rule of law no longer matters, and where the government refuses to stand up for the creation of important family and community-supporting jobs. John Horgan needs to clearly say to British Columbians that the Coastal GasLink project will proceed, because both the province and local elected First Nations councils have approved it.

“This is an important moment for British Columbia, as the rest of the world is watching. Do John Horgan and the NDP believe in the rule of law, or not? John Horgan needs to come out of hiding and let everyone know whether he does or not. We are all citizens of British Columbia, and we deserve an answer.”
