INDIAN Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Stephen Harper will have to struggle with jet lag at the state dinner in Modi’s honour at the Pinnacle Vancouver Harbourfront Hotel on Thursday.

The two prime ministers will be winging it to Vancouver from Toronto in the afternoon after which they will visit Khalsa Diwan Society’s Ross Street Gurdwara and then Sri Laxmi Narayan Temple in Surrey.

Those visits should not be a problem for Modi and Harper, but later in the evening, with a three-hour difference between Toronto and Vancouver, 9 p.m. would feel like midnight.

Interestingly, India falls under two time zones but it maintains one time zone for strategic reasons. That is why there is a time difference of 13.5 hours (12.5 hours during Daylight Saving Time) between Vancouver and any part of India. Otherwise, the difference

would be 13 hours with the western half of India and 14 hours with the eastern half.

Anyway, we at The VOICE wish Modi and Harper the best of luck in trying to fight the jet lag and coping with their hectic schedule!
