IHIT identifies Surrey homicide victim as 40-year-old Harpreet Kaur Gill (update)

INTEGRATED Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified Wednesday’s homicide victim in Surrey as 40-year-old Harpreet Kaur Gill in the hopes of furthering their investigation.

On December 7 at 9:22 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in the 12700-block of 66 Avenue. Officers found a woman in medical distress, resulting from multiple stab wounds. Despite the best efforts of first responders, the woman succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

A 40-year-old man, known to the victim, was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody. IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and continues to work closely with the Surrey RCMP.

The suspect was released from custody on December 8.  IHIT said investigators continue to gather evidence and are working to meet the charge approval threshold.

“Our investigators have been working non-stop,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti.  “These incidents have a significant impact, not only on the family and friends of the victim, but the entire community. Surrey RCMP’s Victim Services has been engaged and is available to anyone in need of assistance.”
