IHIT now investigating case of body found inside structure fire at Surrey house

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation into the body of the adult man found inside a structure fire at a Surrey house on Sunday.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on January 5, Surrey Police Service officers were called by Surrey Fire Service after firefighters located a deceased man inside a structure fire at an abandoned house in the 9800-block of 138 Street.

Frontline SPS officers attended and held the scene, while also canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses and surveillance video.

Surrey Police Service said on Monday the cause of the man’s death has not been determined; however, it is being considered suspicious at this time. As a result, IHIT has now taken conduct of this investigation.

The investigation is in the early stages and IHIT is working in partnership with Surrey Police Service officers to complete priority tasks.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
