IIO BC is seeking witnesses to a death in Surrey

THE Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC announced on Saturday that it is investigating the death of a man in Surrey.

The IIO BC said that information provided by the RCMP states that at about 7:30 p.m. on July 7, police received reports of a man and woman walking in traffic in the 19300-block of Fraser Highway.

When officers arrived, it is reported that they took the man into custody, and he went into medical distress shortly thereafter. Despite medical assistance from police, fire services, and Emergency Health Services, the man was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

The IIO BC said it was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the incident, and the cause of the man’s medical distress and subsequent death.

It is requesting any person with relevant information or video footage of the incident to contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
