International kabaddi player shot dead in Punjab

Chandigarh: International kabbadi player Sandeep Singh Sandhu aka Sandeep Nangal Ambian, 38, was shot dead by four assailants during a match at Malian village in Jalandhar district on Monday. 

Multiple bullets were pumped into his head and chest. The disturbing video of the crime went viral.

Hailing from Nangal Ambian village in Shahkot, Sandeep was a professional kabaddi player and played in the stopper position. He had ruled the kabaddi world for more than a decade and played in Canada, the US and the UK, other than Punjab.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, who are currently in England, where he had settled.

According to media reports, Sandeep was president of the Major Kabaddi League Federation and Shahkot Lions Kabaddi Cup. He represented the United Kingdom team as captain in various Kabaddi World Cup tournaments.

Reports have also alleged that a lot of money is involved in the sport and even gangsters are involved in it. Players are even told what team they should play for.

In Canada there have been reports of kabbadi players being used to intimidate people.
