Jagmeet Brar’s failing in attempt to revive political career

CHANDIGARH: After his removal from the Congress Working Committee, Jagmeet Singh Brar has now started making attempts to revive himself in the Punjab politics as he has claimed that he has moved to Punjab for the rejuvenation of the Congress in the state. As a matter of fact, his effort is to make himself worthwhile in the Punjab politics since his credibility is quite low at present. Jagmeet Brar has asked the senior leaders of the Punjab congress namely Captain Amarinder Singh, Partap Singh Bajwa and Mrs Rajinder Kaur Bhattal to contest the Lok Sabha poll to boost the congress cadres in the state. His assertion has not been taken seriously by the senior leaders of the congress in the state.

Captain Amarinder Singh has categorically stated that he is not interested in the election of the Lok Sabha and after his appointment in the CWC he is busy in more important issues of national importance. Similarly Mrs Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has refused to make any comment when contacted.

The Punjab Pradesh Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa is out of India and will be back after June 22.

Jagmeet Brar himself has contested Lok Sabha elections and won twice and defeated once Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal when he was a minister in the Union Cabinet from Faridkot. He won the Lok Sabha elections twice. He also contested against senior Badal in 1985 from Gidderbaha and lost badly.

Jagmeet has been wavering in his political career and has been at loggerheads with all the senior leaders of the Punjab Congress including late chief minister Beant Singh, Harcharan Singh Brar, Mrs Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Captain Amarinder Singh.

Even at present he is not having good functional cooperation with Partap Singh Bajwa and has been running a parallel programme against the Akali Dal regime. He has again announced that he will be launching his anti-Akali campaign at village Mann in Lambi constituency of Muktsar district where 150 villagers have been booked under various charges for rioting during the polling day of block samitis and zila parishads.

The senior leaders of the Punjab congress have not attached any importance to his statement and feel that this speaks of his frustration politically.

The sources close to the congress say that he may be asked to contest election for Lok Sabha from Bathinda seat and in view of the same he wants to involve the other leaders of the state congress. One senior leader of the Punjab congress on condition of anonymity said, ‘who is Jagmeet to suggest us to contest the Lok Sabha poll. We will see when the congress high command takes any such decision. He should mend his fences and set his house in order instead of throwing bricks at others’.

The Congress leaders say that he has lost so much in Punjab politics that he cannot rehabilitate himself and will meet frustration only. He has no credibility except providing good copy for the newspapers, they said.
