Jagpreet Singh of Abbotsford charged with murder in his wife’s stabbing death

JAGPREET Singh, 50, of Abbotsford has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of his wife, Balwinder Kaur, 41.

On Friday, March 15 at 10:50 p.m., Abbotsford Police were called to the 3400-block of Wagner Drive after a report of an assault in progress. Officers located a woman, later identified as Balwinder Kaur, inside the residence suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the woman died in hospital shortly thereafter. A man known to the victim was arrested on scene in relation to the incident. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with Abbotsford Police and the BC Coroners Service.

On Saturday, March 16, Jagpreet Singh was charged with second-degree murder.

“This was an isolated incident,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti on Sunday. “IHIT will continue to work with AbbyPD over the coming days, not only to advance this investigation, but to support the community affected by this tragedy.”
