SURREY RCMP announced on Friday that charges have been laid against Karnvir Garcha, a 22-year-old Surrey resident, in the February 15, 2019 stabbing at a banquet hall in the 8100-block of 128th Street in the Newton area.
Police said that following a fulsome investigation by the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit, Garcha has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm. Garcha is currently in custody and will appear in court later this month.
“We appreciate all who came forward to assist us in this investigation,” said Staff-Sgt. Kirk Duncan. “We all have a responsibility when it comes to public safety and, in this instance, everyone stepped-up and helped us to bring about a successful conclusion.”
ON February 15, 2019, at approximately 10 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at Bollywood Banquet Hall. Investigators located a 20-year-old male with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital.
At the time of the occurrence, the banquet hall was hosting a large South Asian event with hundreds of people in attendance. Investigators had at the time appealed for anyone who may have witnessed or had video of the assault to come forward and speak with the investigators.
