TWO men and a woman have been charged in connection to a Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC), Island District-led investigation into the suspicious death of a female on Vancouver Island.
In August 2023, CFSEU-BC’s Island District Team began an investigation, working collaboratively with Nanaimo and North Cowichan / Duncan RCMP, after information was obtained that led investigators to believe that the overdose death of a female from Nanaimo was suspicious.
The investigation advanced using various police techniques and resources to identify three individuals and to obtain evidence that led to criminal charges being laid, the CFSEU-BC said on Monday.
On October 17, 2024, the British Columbia Prosecution Service (BCPS) approved charges against three individuals:
* Kehar Gary Sangha, a 59-year-old male from Duncan:
– One count of first-degree murder
– One count of counselling to commit murder
* Tyler Stephen Elrix, a 41-year-old male from Duncan:
– One count of first-degree murder
* Lily Irene Lindbergh, a 44-year-old female from Duncan:
– One count of first-degree murder
– One count of counselling to commit murder
Sangha and Lindbergh have been arrested and will remain in custody to appear before the court at a later date.
The CFSEU-BC is seeking the assistance of the public in locating Elrix who has an outstanding arrest warrant in relation to these charges. If anyone has any information on his location, police ask that you do not approach or engage him. Contact your local police or Crime Stoppers with the information.
“This investigation led by CFSEU-BC, and subsequent charges, speaks to the specialized ability of CFSEU-BC to work with partner agencies to conduct complex investigations that support the prosecution of individuals who pose the highest risk to public safety,” said Sgt. Brenda Winpenny, Media Relations Officer for CFSEU-BC.
“CFSEU-BC remains vigilant in our efforts to support and work collaboratively with our policing partners to target those who threaten the safety of our communities due to their involvement in violent criminal activity.”
IN January 2020, the Cowichan Valley Citizen reported that Kehar Sangha pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.
The case stemmed from an April 2017 incident in which a woman was confined on his farm and seriously injured, until she managed to escape.
Sangha was sentenced to 5.25 years in prison and two years probation. He had already spent almost three years in custody and that was considered as time served against his sentence.
