NORTH Vancouver RCMP have arrested a man with a loaded gun following a traffic stop.

On September 4, officers conducted a traffic stop on a man riding a bicycle without a helmet in the 500-block of West Keith Road in North Vancouver. During the interaction, the officer became aware he was in possession of various weapons.

The man was arrested and a search was conducted. He was taken into police custody and brought to cells.

On September 5, the BC Prosecution Service formally charged Robert Kesson of North Vancouver with:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of unauthorized firearm
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon while prohibited

Kesson is currently held in custody and his next court appearance on September 15.

“While the individual was arrested without incident, it is alleged that a loaded firearm was located and seized before it could be used in a crime,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak of North Vancouver RCMP. “This case speaks to the importance of proactive policing efforts in public safety and how seemingly low risk interactions can evolve into more serious criminal investigations. Every firearm removed from the wrong hands reduces the risk of violence and helps us protect the public. Our priority is to keep the community safe, and taking this weapon out of circulation is an important step in doing that.”
