Man charged with murder in stabbing outside Coquitlam pub

THE BC Prosecution Service on Saturday, February 1 approved one count of second-degree murder against 32-year-old Timothy Vansnick in the stabbing death of a 35-year-old man on Friday night in a fight outside the John B Pub located at 1000 Austin Avenue in Coquitlam.

He is under a provincial court detention order and his next court appearance is on March 3, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Monday.

At approximately 9:42 p.m. on January 31, Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report of a fight outside the John B Pub. Bystanders acted quickly by providing first aid and CPR to a man who was suffering from life-threatening injuries. First responders attended but despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 35-year-old man died from his injuries on scene.

Two men believed to be involved in the fight were arrested and IHIT took conduct of the investigation. IHIT worked closely in partnership with Coquitlam RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service to process the crime scene.

The other man who was arrested has been released without charges at this time. The investigation continues and there is no ongoing risk to the public, IHIT said.

“We would like to thank the staff and patrons at the pub who rendered their assistance and did the right thing by cooperating with the police,” said IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong. “Their quick-thinking and willingness to help led to a swift arrest.”
