ON Wednesday, June 3 just before 3:20 p.m., a female youth walking southbound on the sidewalk in the 6300-block of Keith Road in West Vancouver was assaulted by an unknown man walking northbound. The man attempted to grab her as he passed, but the victim was able to free herself from his grasp and fled to safety.

After extensive canvassing for witnesses and CCTV footage, West Vancouver Police identified a suspect and announced on Sunday, June 7 that they were actively investigating his whereabouts. They said the suspect, who is not local to West Vancouver, was a heavy-set man in his fifties with a bushy grey beard and appeared to be walking with a limp. They added that available evidence pointed to this being an isolated incident.

On Monday, June 8, police announced that the suspect had been arrested on Vancouver Island for this assault. He will next appear in North Vancouver Provincial Court on September 9.
