Mayor Ken Sim: “Vancouver has no place for hate”

VANCOUVER Mayor Ken Sim, in response to planned anti-Israel rallies on Monday, said: “Vancouver has no place for hate.”

He added: “In light of the tragic and horrific terrorist attacks which targeted Israeli civilians, we must stand united in our support of the victims, and their families.”

Sim said in a statement: “It is uniquely disturbing to learn there are rallies to celebrate these attacks, and the terror group which sponsored them – Hamas.

“There is no explanation for murder. There is no justification of terrorism. Hamas is a terrorist organization full stop. I unequivocally denounce and condemn any glorifying of the indiscriminate violence from this weekend, including the murder, kidnapping, and rape of innocent Israeli civilians.

“When informed of these rallies, I spoke with the VPD and am encouraged they will investigate and address any incidents of hate. As people gather today, I hope they will overcome hatred and show the basic humanity required to condemn outright and obvious acts of evil.

“The entire City of Vancouver mourns with all of Israel, and all those impacted as they cope with this horrific act of terrorism.”
