METRO Vancouver has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for the fourth year in a row, this time recognizing the strength of its 2023 Annual Financial Report.
The award acknowledges Canadian local governments that go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual financial reports in the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting program was established to encourage local governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials who prepare these reports.
Metro Vancouver’s 2023 annual report was judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the program’s high standards, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure,” clearly communicating the regional government’s financial story, and motivating others to read the report.
Reviewers commended Metro Vancouver for its effort to obtain the award, which is “a significant accomplishment by a local government and its management.”
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), founded in 1906, represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The association’s more than 20,000 members are federal, state/provincial, and local finance officials deeply involved in planning, financing, and implementing thousands of governmental operations in each of their jurisdictions. GFOA’s mission is to advance excellence in public finance.
