PACIFICĀ Oral Health Society in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Surrey-Newton and British Columbia Oral Cancer Prevention Program offered a free oral cancer screening clinic on Sunday, September 23, at Pacific Oral Health Centre located at #300-15850 24th Avenue, Surrey, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The goal of the clinic was to help reduce the barriers to oral cancer and support the prevention and early detection of oral cancer. The event was a resounding success as 325 patients were screened by the dental team and volunteers. The data collected by the Pacific Oral Health Society indicated that nine people were at high risk of having oral cancer and will beĀ reassessed in three weeks’ time.
There were 12 cases that were direct referrals to the cancer clinic that showed positive signs for oral cancer. The Pacific Oral Health Society teamĀ have volunteered over $50,000 worth of their time and services for this clinic to be offered free of charge to the community.
