MP Parm Bains says racism and hatred has no place in Richmond

MP Parm Bains on Tuesday condemned racism and hatred in Richmond.
He said in a statement: “As the Member of Parliament for Steveston-Richmond East, I promised that I would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with communities that are subjected to inexcusable racism and hatred.”
Bains said that after receiving several reports of hate directed towards members of the community and reviewing video footage from the press and social media, it has come to his attention that a resident of Richmond has been verbally abusing community members of Asian descent in public spaces.
He added: “Upon reviewing the videos, it became clear that the individual corresponded with my office in the past. We took action by assembling the history of our correspondence with this person and provided it to the RCMP.”
Bains said this was “unacceptable discriminatory behaviour” and has no place in Richmond.
“I will not tolerate discrimination or race based hatred of any kind in my city. I urge all members of our community to report acts of discrimination and hate,” he said.
