A second charge has now been laid against a 27-year-old Dimitri Nelson Hyacinth of Surrey in relation to two White Rock stabbings, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Friday.

On April 23, White Rock RCMP responded to a report of injured man in the 15400-block of Marine Drive. Officers along with BC Ambulance Emergency Health Services located a 26-year-old man, later identified as Kulwinder Singh Sohi, on the White Rock Promenade at the parking lot adjacent to the Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles (Pa-Kwach-Tun) Memorial Plaza, suffering from fatal stab wounds.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and continues to work closely in partnership with the White Rock RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services.

On April 29, IHIT investigators arrested Hyacinth on April 30 and he was subsequently charged in relation to the aggravated assault of Jatinder Singh on April 21.

IHIT said that after tireless work in coordination with many policing partners, it was now announcing that on May 3, Hyacinth was charged with second-degree murder in relation to Sohi’s homicide.

“These events have had a significant impact on a community,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierott. “I hope that today’s announcement provides a further sense of relief to those who frequent the White Rock promenade.”

IHIT is asking that any witnesses or anyone who may have information regarding the homicide to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
