Dimitri Nelson Hyacinth of Surrey, arrested in relation to Sohi’s homicide, charged in stabbing of Jatinder Singh

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Tuesday that 27-year-old Dimitri Nelson Hyacinth of Surrey, who had been arrested on April 29 in relation to the April 23 homicide of Kulwinder Singh Sohi, has now been charged in relation to the April 21 stabbing of Jatinder Singh in White Rock.

On April 23 at 9:26 p.m., White Rock RCMP responded to a report of an injured man in the 15400-block of Marine Drive. Officers along with BC Ambulance Emergency Health Services located a 26-year old man, later identified as Sohi, on the White Rock Promenade at the parking lot adjacent to the Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles (Pa-Kwach-Tun) Memorial Plaza, suffering from fatal stab wounds.

On April 26, IHIT said that witnesses described seeing Sohi in a physical altercation with the suspect, before giving chase eastbound on the promenade toward the parking lot adjacent to the Plaza

IHIT took conduct of the investigation and continues to work closely in partnership with the White Rock RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services.

As a result of evidence collected by investigators, IHIT worked closely in partnership with the White Rock RCMP that had conduct of a previous assault investigation which occurred in White Rock on April 21 in which 28-year old Jatinder Singh was assaulted while on the White Rock Promenade.

On April 29, IHIT investigators with the assistance of the Integrated Emergency Response Team, arrested Hyacinth in relation to the homicide.

As investigative efforts advanced, on April 30, Hyacinth was charged in relation to the aggravated assault of Jatinder Singh on April 21.

“This is a dynamic and ongoing case.  The investigation into the homicide of Mr. Sohi remains active,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “We’re thankful for the collaborative work being done by the IHIT investigators along with the White Rock RCMP.”

IHIT is asking that any witnesses or anyone who was in the area of the White Rock Promenade, east of the White Rock Pier near the parking lot adjacent to the Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles (Pa-Kwach-Tun) Memorial Plaza or driving on Marine Drive on April 23 between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. with dash cameras or anyone who may have information regarding the homicide to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
