Naked man arrested in Port Moody after alleged stranger assault

PORT Moody Police arrested a naked man on Saturday evening after he allegedly assaulted a stranger and armed himself with a knife.

On May 24 shortly before 10 p.m., police received several 9-1-1 calls of an assault that had occurred at Rocky Point Park. A naked man allegedly assaulted another man, then ran into a nearby restaurant. Inside the restaurant, it is alleged he armed himself with a knife – brandishing it in a threatening manner.

Police said that frontline officers arrived on scene within two minutes of being dispatched, arresting the suspect nearby without further incident. The suspect – a 48-year-old man – remains in police custody at this time, awaiting charge assessment from the B.C. Prosecution Service.

“This incident occurred in a very busy part of our community and as a result, we have spoken with a number of witnesses already,” said Constable Sam Zacharias. “Thankfully no one sustained any serious injuries.”
