National War Memorial investigation by Ottawa Police: Suspect to identify

There are 25 active investigations including the desecration of the National War Memorial, and incidents at the Shepherds of Good Hope

 

THE Ottawa Police Service said on Wednesday that it continues its investigation of the desecration of the National War Memorial on Saturday, January 29.

Investigators are asking the public to review the photographs and video of the suspect they are seeking to identify. They said they wish to credit The Sun for the video and photos.

The suspect is described as a white woman, average build, wearing a black winter jacket with some yellow on the front, a black toque with symbol on the front, black winter pants and grey and white shoes. She was carrying a black backpack.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of this person is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Central Investigations Section at 613-236-1222, ext. 5166.

Police said they have been clear that evidentiary teams that will be videotaping all aspects of the demonstration. They added that they are acting on evidence of violence, hate crimes and unlawful behaviour.

There will be consequences for anyone contravening City By-laws, Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code legislation, police said.

Three men have been charged with criminal offences in relation to the demonstration.

“Please Report Crimes”

Police say that if you have been a victim of crime, please report it. They are aware that many crimes have not been reported including assaults, hate crimes, sexual assault, spitting and other threatening and criminal behaviour.

They say they have intelligence assets and investigators who will be working throughout the entire event and in the days, weeks and months following, should there be any violence and acts of criminality associated with the demonstration.

Police investigators must have a formal complaint to investigate and pursue these acts.
